IIMB hosts the 11th Management Programme for Women Entrepreneurs Valedictory

May 16, 2015: IIM Bangalore’s Management Programme for Women Entrepreneurs (MPWE) held their 11th valedictory on Saturday, May 16, 2015. 30 women entrepreneurs successfully completed the course which was coordinated by the NSRCEL.
Ms. Akila Krishnakumar, Former-President, Global Solution Centres at SunGuard, in her keynote address said, “Entrepreneurship is a lifestyle and not just a job. For all the highs of being anentrepreneur, there are a lot of lows as well. There are a lot of reasons people choose to be entrepreneurs; for some it is power, for some it is legacy, and for some others, it is about being different. However, legacy is not just about building a multi-million dollar company; it is about establishing relationships with customers and employees. It is about building a network of people.”
Advising the women entrepreneurs Ms. Krishnakumar said, “Most people do not expect women entrepreneurs to succeed. Surprise them. No load of expectations is a very powerful motivator”.
Professor Rajluxmi V Murthy, MPWE Programme Co-Director, stated that out of 135 applications, they shortlisted women who were already running ventures to bring in dynamics and to enable them to take away something tangible from the programme. Conducive, practical learning was laid emphasis on.
Professor Sabarinathan G, Chairperson, NSRCEL, said, “Over the years, the course has evolved. The programme has been redesigned to encourage and equip the students with tools that may come of use.”
“To be an entrepreneur requires a lot of courage. Making the decision to take the plunge is half the battle”, added the professor. He took this opportunity to thank the directors, Professor Rajluxmi V Murthy and Professor Mukta Kulkarni, mentors, faculty and all others who were instrumental in making this programme successful.
Ms. Srijata Bhatnagar, a participant, said, “It was a dream come true. I have always wanted to be a part of IIM. Being an early-stage entrepreneur, applying for the course and being accepted was getting an acceleration and validation of what I am doing. It has been a phenomenal journey.”
“It was a holistic experience. Sometimes the course does not meet your expectations but this course overwhelmed us because it gave us so much more than what we had expected. The course is flexible and evolving; some topics were included just because we had requested for it. The mentoring was exceptional and it is what made the course effective,” said Ms. Kadambari Umapathy, another participant.
MPWE is a comprehensive program which enables aspiring women entrepreneurs to convert their raw business ideas into viable business plans. It also empowers women entrepreneurs with existing businesses and / or social enterprises to grow further. Over the last decade, the program has helped create new ventures as well as lifted ongoing businesses to the next level.
MPWE has emerged as the centerpiece of NSRCEL’s growing and deep commitment to supporting the cause of women entrepreneurship.
