STATE OF THE MAP ASIA 2018 on November 17 and 18

Programme Overview: Centre for Public Policy (CPP) and Centre for Software and IT Management (CSITM) at IIM Bangalore will host a research seminar titled ‘State of the Map Asia 2018’. This event will be held jointly by SOTMAC (State of the Map Asia, 2018 Committee) and IIM Bangalore. State of the Map Asia is the annual regional conference of the OpenStreetMap communities in Asia. The conference will bring together participants from around the world to discuss challenges, learn, and celebrate many years of mapping together.


Over two days, the event will feature talks and workshops about the impact, relevance and technical aspects of OpenStreetMap. The conference will be keynoted by Dr. Anita Patil-Deshmukh, CEO of PUKAR and Siddharth Hande, CEO of Kabbadiwala Connect - highlighting active community driven changes in different urban environments in India and other parts of the world.

Profile of keynote speakers:

1. Dr. Anita Patil-Deshmukh, CEO, PUKAR

IIMB

Dr. Patil-Deshmukh is a neonatologist by profession, a self-taught social scientist by passion, and developmental researcher by preference. She played a major leadership role within India Development Service (IDS), a pioneering Chicago based organisation supporting developmental projects in India for which she volunteered over 15 years. She relocated to India in 2005 to contribute to the developmental sector and joined PUKAR. Her research interests are urbanisation, urban poverty, health, and urban knowledge production through the lens of youth

2. Siddharth Hande, CEO, Kabadiwala Connect

IIMB

Siddharth Hande is a spatial data analyst by training. He is interested in social entrepreneurship, technology, urban planning, informality and the circular economy in the developing world. He is the founder of Kabadiwalla Connect, an award winning social enterprise in the field of waste management. Prior to Kabadiwalla Connect, Siddharth worked as a consultant in some of India's premier urban policy and research think tanks, including the Indo-German Centre for Sustainability at IIT-Madras, The Indian Institute for Human Settlements and the Institute for Financial Management and Research
