20 March, 2017, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore has partnered with the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) to launch the NASSCOM Leadership Academy and the Leadership Resource Center, which aims to enhance skills and create industry-ready talent for the IT sector in India.
The service was launched in February in the presence of Prof. Vasanthi Srinivasan, IIM Bangalore faculty from the Organizational Behaviour & Human Resources Management area, R. Chandrashekhar, President, NASSCOM, Sushma Rajagopalan, Chairperson - NASSCOM IT Services Council and CEO & MD, ITC Infotech, amongst other industry professionals.
The NASSCOM Leadership Academy is a global collaborative learning community which will focus on building differentiated leadership competencies in future leaders of the industry. The initiative will have a Leadership Resource Centre (LRC), an online collaboration platform, which will serve as the backbone of the NASSCOM Leadership Academy. The platform will enable aspiring leaders to collaborate with industry leaders, and learn from experience sharing and co-created conversations.
The LRC will be a hub where new knowledge gets generated and built on a strong foundation of research that will be context-specific for the industry. The design philosophy of LRC will rest on the premise of participant-centred, platform-led, blended learning combined with analytics. The LRC will develop original content, curate existing content in a format that can be easily consumed by members and will support a peer-to-peer learning format. This whole project is about making future-ready leaders in the Indian IT Services industry capable of proactively managing the context of disruption.
Stating that IIM Bangalore, as a leading management institute is pleased to be partnering with NASSCOM, LRC Anchor Prof. Vasanthi Srinivasan explained: “This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the field of leadership development. Much of the skill development initiatives are focused on technical and commercial skills. The LRC will provide content for the development of management and leadership competencies based on the participants’ context. A significant part of LRC will be peer-to-peer learning which will be enabled by technology. An industry initiative of this kind will require learning interventions, both virtual and physical. This calls for several forms of collaborative learning including self-directed learning of curated content, peer-to-peer learning and coaching, discussion forums and face-to-face learning through sessions and workshops.”
“The year 2017 will be the year of disruption and innovation and it is now more important than ever that the industry acquires leaders who can openly take on challenges, as well as build and uphold the momentum that is taking us forward. With initiatives such as the Leadership Resource Centre, NASSCOM continues its efforts towards building the future leaders of the industry”, said C.P. Gurnani.

This initiative will provide a significant platform for the next generation of IT leaders, bridging the gap in developing the next level of leadership. Sharad Heda, NLA Champion, NASSCOM and Chief of Staff, Microland, said, “Indian IT industry is estimated to grow from $160 billion today to $325 billion by 2025. On a conservative level, this would mean additional 25,000 successful SME businesses. Our vision is to build world's first ecosystem that nurtures future-ready leaders at such a large scale for a given industry. We are happy to bring IIMB on board for the Leadership Resource Centre, a robust online platform for sharing and collaborating on insights that are relevant for future leaders. Our objective is to offer easy to consume, affordable and modular content, ensuring that every IT company can benefit from the service.”
The LRC will be supplemented by leadership development programs custom-built by IIMB’s Centre for Software & Information Technology Management (CSITM) for NASSCOM members and would be delivered at IIMB and across large cities. A number of large IT companies have volunteered to loan their physical infrastructure free of cost as their additional contribution to the initiative. The service will focus on all segments of Indian IT companies and non-NASSCOM members would also be able to leverage the services. Through such initiatives NASSCOM aims to champion the cause of redefining skilling for the IT industry, enabling companies to find a direction through which they can improve their overall competitiveness.
