Prof. Deepak Malghan receives TN Khoshoo Memorial Award for his contributions to ecological economics

The recognition has been awarded by Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment

1 December, 2023, Bengaluru: Prof. Deepak Malghan, faculty of the Public Policy area of IIM Bangalore, has received the TN Khoshoo Memorial Award from the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), during the 20th T N Khoshoo Memorial Award and Lecture on ‘The Economics of Biodiversity’, held at the Bangalore International Centre on 30th November 2023.

According to a communication from ATREE, “Deepak Malghan’s contributions to ecological economics are diverse, dynamic, and marked by sheer brilliance! From scaling the eco-econ balance to unleashing innovative methods on urban spatial inequalities, Deepak’s impact is truly groundbreaking.”

Prof. Malghan is a chemical engineer and ecological economist working at scale theory and thermodynamics interface. Among other recognitions for his contributions to scale theory, Dr. Malghan received the 2015 VKRV Rao Prize in Social Sciences. He has served as an editor at Ecological Economics, the field’s flagship journal (2018-23). His applied environmental policy research has been centred on urban hydrology problems.
