Prof. Deepti Ganapathy attends WHO Technical Consultation on building global curriculum for Infodemic Management at Belgrade, Serbia

The Centre for Management Communication Chairperson to be part of a global effort to train infodemic managers and identify pilot universities to enter the WHO collaborating centre process

March, 2023, Bengaluru: Prof. Deepti Ganapathy, Chairperson, Centre for Management Communication, and Area Chair (Management Communication), IIM Bangalore, was invited by the World Health Organization (WHO) as part of a global effort to train infodemic managers and identify pilot universities to enter the WHO collaborating centre process.

"During the COVID-19 pandemic WHO established Infodemic Management as a new concept and area of concentrated intervention to mitigate the consequences emitting from an evolving information ecosystem and how individuals and communities interact with it," according to a WHO communique.

Prof. Ganapathy had, in the early days of the pandemic, led a webinar discussion on ‘Communication in Times of Uncertainty’.

Her research on how Twitter communication from Government accounts led to control of public health behavior that was desirable in a pandemic situation has been published as a book chapter. She is also involved in another research project on the same subject.

Prof. Ganapathy has also designed and delivered the first course on 'Health Communication' as part of the Certificate Programme in Hospital Management offered by IIM Bangalore.

She has been appointed as an Affiliate Faculty at the George Mason University, USA (January 2023 to January 2024), where she will work on projects related to Climate Change and Health with leading researchers and universities in the US.
