Forum for Communication & Leadership Club at IIMB hosts online talk on ‘Inside-Out Leadership’ on Nov 21

Rajiv Vij

The talk was delivered by life & executive coach, author, and speaker Rajiv Vij, former MD of Franklin Templeton Investments

22 November, 2021, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore’s Forum for Communication and Leadership Club (FOCAL) hosted an online talk titled, 'Inside-Out Leadership: 5 insights I wish I had known before starting my career' by Rajiv Vij, author and former MD of Franklin Templeton Investments, on November 21 (Sunday), 2021. The session was moderated by Professor Jitamitra Desai, faculty and Chairperson, Decision Sciences area as well as Chairperson, Supply Chain Management Centre, IIMB. FOCAL is the communication and leadership club of the PGP students of IIMB.

Rajiv Vij’s talk highlighted the need for leaders to upskill themselves on the various aspects of leadership. He said, “Leaders are under extreme stress to deliver multiple business aspects. Hence, there is an intense need for mental well-being. Introspection and focusing on one's inner self are two pivotal aspects that today’s leaders need to embrace in their lives. Young leaders tend to search for shortcuts to success but it is a game of whole, not parts. So, my suggestion for all the young leaders is to invest in personal growth”.

Pointing out that to drive an organization it is not just skills related to working that gives an edge, but also managing emotions, he advised that embracing a reflective practice and bringing out the core while searching for life’s purpose are required.

Explaining the human perception of greed driven by insecurity, he said, “No one is content with small gains, but these gains do not kill one’s insecurity. Each gain leaves us craving for more success and the insecurity crisis persists all along. Following the methodology of not comparing with others, knowing oneself, building equanimity and a positive mindset enable us to manage well. All the CXOs need to cultivate these qualities to address multiple challenges faced in this VUCA environment.”

Other than IIMB students and alumni, the event also saw enthusiastic participation from young leaders of prominent organizations like BCG, Rolls Royce, HUL, SAP, Facebook (META), etc.
