Sixth batch of N. S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship with twelve participants concludes on 30th April

The 2023-24 batch comprised eight women and four male Fellows with diverse profiles

1 May, 2024, Bengaluru: The sixth batch of the N. S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship (NSR Pre-doc) of IIM Bangalore completed the programme and received their certificates on 30th April 2024. The 2023-24 batch of twelve participants comprised eight women and four male Fellows with diverse profiles.

The objective of the Fellowship programme, launched in 2018, with a focus on inclusion, is to enable the participants to acquire formal and tacit knowledge necessary to succeed in a Doctoral programme. It is designed to increase the social diversity of management academia, in India and globally.

Prof. Anil B Suraj, Chairperson, N. S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship and Committee on Diversity and Inclusion, and faculty of the Public Policy area of IIMB, congratulating the Fellows on completing the requirements of the one-year Fellowship programme, said, “The Pre-doctoral programme is unique in its design and delivery. It involves full time faculty mentorship, while also providing opportunities for the Fellows to attend PhD and MBA level courses at the institute. There is a dedicated Math Clinic to prepare the Fellows for the analytical rigors of PhD programmes across the globe. I am particularly impressed by the transformation of the Fellows after going through 50 hours of intense Communication Clinic, with a focus on research writing and academic presentation. A majority of the Fellows have secured PhD admissions, and few others are awaiting results.”

In the outgoing batch, out of the 12 Fellows, two each were in the areas of Economics, Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management and Public Policy; and one each in the Decision Sciences, Entrepreneurship, Information Systems, Marketing, Production & Operations Management, and Strategy areas.

The Fellows shared their takeaways from NSR Pre-doc and their future plans. Shreyash Surendrarao Deshmukh aspires to become a researcher and contribute to academia. Pursuing a doctorate would be his next step, after which he plans to join an esteemed academic institution. Through study and collaboration, he aims to generate impactful publications that establish knowledge in his field.

Parvathy Sailesh, who is soon to join the PhD programme in Public Policy at the National University of Singapore (NUS), plans to study the behavioral effects of climate change in political and economic contexts, and derive actionable policy recommendations. In addition to research, she is also eager to explore the culture, history and economy of Southeast Asia. In the long term, she aims to build an academic career.

Kiran Babasaheb Ghangaonkar plans to complete PhD from IIMB, get into academics and pursue his research interest.

Shruti Appalla shares that she will pursue her PhD at the School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) at Cornell University. She will be researching non-market strategy and employment relations in AI supply chains.

The admissions process for the seventh batch of Fellows of the NSR Pre-doc programme will be conducted in May 2024.
