Ashis Mishra is a member of the Marketing area at IIM Bangalore since 2004. Prior to this, he worked as faculty in marketing at XLRI Jamshedpur and TAPMI Manipal.

A pure educationist by choice, he has been involved with teaching and research in marketing field all his professional life.

Ashis has been developing cases based on retail business and marketing scenario in India, some of which are listed on Harvard Business Publishing for Educators. His research interests are in retail strategy, retail consumer behaviour, retail atmospherics, merchandising and category management in emerging economies.

Dr Mishra’s research interest are in the retail domain. He is actively pursuing “redefining retail strategy in emerging economies”. He is also interested in the “retail business in rural India” which poses a significant challenge to industry and academia alike. He uses optimization modelling, experimental design and qualitative methods in his research activities.

He teaches post graduate and doctoral level courses on Marketing Management, Marketing Research, Retail Management, Multichannel retail strategy etc. In addition he has offered multiple courses on Marketing management and Retail Management on MOOCs platform (EDX, IIMBX, SWAYAM).

Ashis has trained teams at various organizations on topics related to retailing and marketing. Few recent names are TESCO India, TRENT group, FUTURE group, LENOVO, DELOITTE etc. In addition, he has conducted multiple consulting projects for various government / semi government organizations.

Dr Mishra is a fervent teacher. He receives high ratings both from young MBA students and industry practitioners attending Executive Education Programmes. He was awarded the “Best Teacher in Marketing Management” by Amar – Ujala B-School Excellence Awards in 2012.

Dr Mishra is the chairperson library committee since 2015. He is a passionate reader and loves books. He has been actively pursuing the physical, digital as well as technical renovation of the IIMB library.
