Projects led/ initiated in district

  • Activation of District Skill Committee (DSC), North Garo Hills: The DSC was made functional through orientation of members, conducting a Skill Aspirational Survey among 164 high school students of North Garo Hills, assessment of skill eco-system, drafting of Skill Development Plan, and supporting PMKVY 3.0 implementation. 

  • Conceptualised Project SEEL (Skill, Entrepreneurship, Employment, Livelihoods), North Garo Hills – It included setting up of a District Social Media Page for all skilling, entrepreneurship, employment, and livelihoods updates, creating a District Skill Calendar by mapping the various skilling activities in the districts and maintaining a District Skill MIS. 

  • Provided policy inputs for conceptualizing two projects of Govt of Meghalaya - ‘One Skill, One Talent Program’ and FOCUS Program (a bottom-up farmer mobilisation initiative). 

  • Promotion of 2 Cooperative Societies (Mendipathar Multipurpose Cooperative Society and Abri Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd) in the district: Recruiting personnel for scaling up of these cooperatives, project proposals for an e-commerce platform, and business plans to the tune of Rs 48 lakhs were initiated. 

  • Promotion of Local Entrepreneurs: 5 Entrepreneurs in Areca plate making, rural homestays, bamboo craft, Wood carving and Noodle making were identified. Funds of Rs 21 lakhs were accessed through government schemes for them in the form of grants and interest free loans. Adequate handholding was provided for scaling up. 

  • Livelihood Promotion plan for 5 districts of Garo Hills: A proposal to the tune of Rs 52 Crore was made by a two-member team including myself and another MGN Fellow in response to a request from Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, Meghalaya. 

  • Roadmap for revamping of a 5 MT Fruit Processing Unit, Dhainadhubi, North Garo Hills: A report was submitted as per the request of Dept of Planning, Govt of Meghalaya.
