TAXSHE, an exclusive women cab drivers’ service company incubated by IIMB’s NSRCEL, wins big at the World Bank’s ‘SDGs and Her’ competition

TAXSHE, an exclusive women cab drivers’ service company incubated by IIMB’s NSRCEL, wins big at the World Bank’s ‘SDGs and Her’ competition

NSRCEL is IIMB’s centre for innovation and entrepreneurship. With support from government agencies, corporate and institutional partners, NSRCEL incubates early-stage companies and provides a platform to successful and budding entrepreneurs running profit and non-profit ventures of the start-up ecosystem.

NSRCEL’s approach to innovation and entrepreneurship is highly integrative, attempting to create a close connection between the theory and practice of entrepreneurship. The program incorporates one-on-one mentoring sessions, structured guidance, cohort-based program, sessions by entrepreneurs and academicians, one-year incubation program that enables mentor/investor connect, and workspace to interact and learn from fellow entrepreneurs.

NSRCEL has incubated over 225 ventures, engaged 46K+ entrepreneurs, created 5K+ jobs, raised $1.5 billion combined value of the start-ups till date.

Taxshe is a promise of safety for women and children with a practical solution of women drivers.  The company trains women from underprivileged families in professional driving skills over months, and these women, in turn, drive children to school, tuitions, and extra-curricular activities. Taxshe also caters to women who need to commute to work or otherwise.

Incubated at NSCREL, IIM Bangalore’s innovation and entrepreneurship center, under the Social Entrepreneurship program supported by the Mphasis Foundation, Taxshe has now set up operations in Gurgaon too. With support and mentoring from NSRCEL, Taxshe has got help from IIT Delhi on their software requirements.

Awarded by the World Bank under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) program, and winner of the ‘Her Contest’ 2019, Vandana Suri, the founder of Taxshe traveled to Washington, USA, to address investors such as International Finance Corporation (IFC)—the investment arm of the World Bank.

Vandana Suri is one of the winners of the 2019 global "SDGs and Her" Competition for women micro-entrepreneurs who are helping to achieve the SDGs through their business operations. She was chosen from a pool of 1200 entries. She has been invited to speak at the "SDGs and Her" event on the margins of the 2019 World Bank Group-International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings in Washington D.C on 11th April 2019.

On the company’s future, Vandana Suri shares, “We now plan to scale to 4000 women drivers in 5 years, which will keep about 1 lakh children safe every single day which will make a huge, positive impact to bring down child sexual abuse in our society. Taxshe plans to raise about 2 Million USD to accomplish this dream.”

DABBLE PLAYART, an NSRCEL-incubated one-of-a-kind maker of natural and safe art products, helps children’s cognitive and emotional development

The idea of Dabble was born when as mothers, founders Karen Saldanha Sequeira, and Neha Bajaj, a team of trained Expressive Arts therapists could not find safe art products for their children. They began dreaming up their products, which would help kids with free expression. Launched in 2019, Dabble introduced the category of PlayArt to encourage children to “think and color outside the lines.”

Its latest offerings include crayons made from organic beeswax and coconut oil in a box of unique shapes that inspire ideas and stories along with finger paints also made from toxin-free ingredients. “Our products contain coconut and sweet orange oil, perfect for sensory and color exploration without a paintbrush,” says Karen.

“As moms, we develop each product with support from a team of industry-reputed scientists and food technologists. The NABL Certified Lab tests all our products,” she adds.

Incubated at NSRCEL, Dabble Playart workshops have impacted more than 200 children and their parents to create awareness on how art leads to the cognitive, social, and emotional development of a child in their early years.

Dabble was selected for the Launchpad program at NSRCEL IIMB in Jan 2019. NSRCEL was exactly what they needed to give wings to their dreams. They have completed the pilot launch into the market and have been able to streamline operations. The current Mantra is to scale up and grow. They are looking at deeper penetration into the home market in Bangalore, building online distribution and exploring other markets. The women entrepreneurs are working with NSRCEL to fine-tune their business plan and pitch to find investors to fund their projects. The hope is that the incubation provides the necessary support to build a sustainable business.
