IIM Bangalore welcomes 80 students to the PGPEM Class of 2022-24 on April 09

Chief Guest Deepak Chandrasekaran, CEO and Founder of Traana Technologies, delivers the keynote address

10 April, 2022, Bengaluru: “I learnt the different aspects of business from PGPEM. The programme will give you a fantastic management toolkit at the end of two years”, said Chief Guest Deepak Chandrasekaran, CEO and Founder of Traana Technologies, at the inauguration of IIM Bangalore’s two-year weekend MBA: Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), batch of 2022-24, held on April 09 (Saturday), 2022. IIMB welcomed 80 students during the inauguration of the PGP in Enterprise Management.

Deepak Chandrasekaran, who is a Distinguished Alumnus of IIMB, also pointed out some of the challenges that the students may come across. “You have to overcome the inertia caused due to the gap in academics. But there is the unbridled joy of learning. Plus, the programme will give you new energy, a boost for the rest of your career. So, squeeze out the time that is required - however difficult, start building a network with batchmates with complementary skillsets, and do not worry about Return on Investment – it will come on its own.”

Earlier in the day, Prof. Rahul Dé, Dean, Programmes, and faculty from the Information Systems area, gave an overview of the programme with details of what PGPEM entailed – the academics, extracurricular activities, events, contests, and more. “This is one of the top rated programmes as per the QS rankings. Do mix with students of other programmes on campus. Make the best use of resources on campus like the library, IT, the highly trained faculty, etc. Most importantly, be conscious of academic integrity - that is the basis of our strong reputation.”

In his welcome address, Prof. Ashis Mishra, Chairperson, Admissions & Financial Aid, and IIMB faculty in the Marketing area, discussed the batch profile. “While the average age of the cohort this year is 34 years, average experience is for 12 years, which is a positive as maturity brings a good perspective to the class. The maximum number of students have come from engineering background, followed by Commerce, Science and Arts. I see there is a good mix of industries and organizations also. Since Management education is about peer learning, a good mix of students is what we look for. Moreover, this year, there is a 20 to 25 % increase in overall applications.”

Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIMB, gave an overview of the institute since it was established as well as that of PGPEM. “A wide variety of industries are represented in this programme. It features in top global rankings, and the students and alumni achieve incredible feats. The faculty of this programme are engaged in cutting-edge research, which is the currency for any academic institute.”

To the new batch the Director advised, “Be good ambassadors of the institute and the programme. Try to learn to the best of your abilities and apply the learning to your organizations, this way you will get the most out of the programme. I am happy to note that this year several women have enrolled for the programme, and we, at IIMB, encourage diversity and inclusion.”

Prof. Gopal Mahapatra, Chairperson, PGPEM and faculty in the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area, congratulated the participants for choosing PGPEM, one of the highly ranked programmes. While offering an overview of PGPEM, he advised the students to “explore, experience and evolve”. Further, he pointed out that: “What makes PGPEM a great programme is that it equips you with cutting-edge skills for job development in future, gives you a wonderful peer network, and offers you the opportunity to associate with our innovation and entrepreneurship hub – NSRCEL.”

The incoming PGPEM Chairperson Prof. Allen P Ugargol of the Public Policy area also addressed the students, talking briefly about elements of the programme.

The PGPEM is specially designed for high-performing professionals from across industries to develop holistic management competencies as they continue working. The course is scheduled on weekends over two years.
