04 September, 2025, Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has once again reaffirmed its position as one of India’s premier management institutions, securing the #2 rank in the Management category of India Rankings 2025 with an overall score of 81.56/100.
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister for Education, released the India Rankings 2025 under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) on 04 September, 2025, from Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event marked the 10th edition of this landmark initiative, which evaluates and ranks institutions of higher education across the country. Prof. Sourav Mukherji, Dean, Faculty, and Dean, Alumni Relations & Development, received the honour on behalf of IIMB.
A closer look at the evaluation highlights IIMB’s strengths across parameters. In Teaching, Learning & Resources, the institute scored 89.16/100, reflecting its robust faculty-student ratio, high proportion of PhD-qualified and experienced faculty, and significant investment in financial resources and infrastructure. In Research and Professional Practice, IIMB achieved a strong score driven by impactful contributions in publications, quality of research, and the reach of its executive programmes and professional practice.
One of IIMB’s strongest areas is Graduation Outcomes, where it secured an outstanding 98.86/100. This demonstrates the Institute’s exceptional placement record, higher education progression, high university exam performance, and impressive median salaries for its graduates. In Outreach and Inclusivity, IIMB earned 73.27/100, reflecting its initiatives in regional and gender diversity, alongside facilities for students with disabilities. Finally, in Perception, IIMB scored a perfect 100/100, underscoring the esteem in which it is held by employers, recruiters, and academic peers nationally and globally.
Following the announcement of the rankings, dignitaries and education leaders shared their perspectives on the impact and growth of the NIRF framework.
Delivering the keynote, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister for Education, commended the efforts of all participating institutions, stating that “all the participating institutes are setting up the national benchmark.” He called for broader inclusion of sectors like healthcare and agriculture, underscoring that India must build its own robust ranking ecosystem.
In his welcome address, Dr. Anil Kumar Nassa, Member Secretary, National Board of Accreditation, highlighted the scale of participation this year with 7,692 unique institutions and over 14,000 participants across 16 categories. He also announced the introduction of a new category, Sustainability, reflecting India’s growing commitment to responsible and environmentally conscious education.
Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, NBA, elaborated on the five key parameters of the NIRF methodology and noted the growing international recognition of Indian institutions, with participation in the QS World University Rankings rising from 14 institutions in 2016 to 56 in 2025.
Shri Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, emphasized the framework’s credibility, citing a 30.6% increase in participation in just one year and an overall 97% rise since the inception of NIRF.
