Open Executive Education Programme on ESG draws participants from diverse sectors
The new programme titled ‘ESG – Management, Reporting and Communication’ was launched by IIMB on 23rd November
24 November, 2022, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore launched a unique programme offering industry and academic perspectives on the ongoing challenge that organizations currently face, titled: ‘ESG – Management, Reporting and Communication’, on 23rd November 2022. This is the first-ever Open Programme on ESG, offered as part of Executive Education Programmes (EEP).
To be led by Programme Directors Prof. Deepti Ganapathy, Chairperson, Centre for Management Communication, IIMB and Prof. Prerna, the programme has attracted participants who are already immersed in ESG implementation in their sectors as well as practitioners who are keen to understand the rapidly evolving ESG ecosystem.
This programme is meant to help participants ‘negotiate sustainability’ by making them aware of a certain sense of accountability that comes along with the usage of the term ‘sustainability’.
Programme participant Anirban Gupta, a mid-career professional in the Pharma sector with an accounting and legal background, said, "ESG has always been there as a concept, however how we can make ESG a part of the work culture, is what I expect to learn from this programme.”
Nikunj Savaliya, a senior practitioner with a global conglomerate is already practicing ESG guidelines. He says he has joined the programme to “go beyond basic mandated reporting, a mere investment perspective and deliberate with other participants in this programme.”
Dr. Muthukrishnan Murugesan, with rich experience in airport management, who is currently head of Sustainability of a major airport in the country and Chair of Airport Council International, said, “Noise management, community management, regulatory framework, land acquisition and related social issues – these are ESG factors which we have been at the forefront of. ESG will help balance the growth focus.”
Sahil Bhatia and Mayank Ranka, both working with a FMCG major said, “We are here to understand how companies are gearing up to report on ESG.”
Other participants said that they plan to enhance their conceptual understanding of ESG issues from this course in order to be able to take a more rigorous view of ESG implementation.
The timing of the programme’s launch is significant, with the United Nations climate change conference ‘COP27’ being concluded recently.
