Centre for Teaching & Learning and Executive Education Programmes to jointly host case writing workshop on ‘Developing India-centric Cases on Sustainability and Climate Crisis’ from 4th to 6th October

Workshop to help participants develop case studies to enrich their respective curricula along the theme of sustainability

3 October, 2023, Bengaluru: The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), along with Executive Education Programmes (EEP), IIM Bangalore, will jointly host a case writing workshop on, ‘Developing India-centric Cases on Sustainability and Climate Crisis’, from 4th to 6th October 2023, as part of the Golden Jubilee activities of the institute. The three-day case writing workshop, a first-of-its-kind from IIMB, will be focussed on the theme of sustainability.

For details, please visit: https://eep.iimb.ac.in/course/workshop-for-developing-business-case-studies/?utm_campaign=S02270&utm_content=workshop

The workshop is open to faculty members from management institutions, corporate universities as well as learning and development departments of organizations. Participants from institutions and organizations can collaborate for developing cases during the workshop as well as become ambassadors for case writing in their respective organizations.

Case-based teaching is a dominant pedagogy in management education and there is a constant need to develop case studies that are relevant and contextually embedded. It is the need of the hour for every management curriculum to incorporate elements that can educate managers and leaders on ways to adopt sustainable practices and help restore the health of planet Earth.

As a step towards this purpose and to bridge the gap caused by a dearth of high-quality teaching cases focused on India-centric management problems, IIM Bangalore will conduct this workshop which will provide participants with tools and techniques for developing insightful case studies that can enrich their respective curricula along the dimension of sustainability. Faculty members from IIM Bangalore will conduct the workshop that would demystify the process of case writing. Since 2010, IIM Bangalore has had a collaboration with Harvard Business Publishing (HBP), whereby cases written by IIMB faculty members are passed through a double-blind peer review process to get published by HBP.

In keeping with one of the themes of IIM Bangalore’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, the participants of the workshop are encouraged to develop cases around various dimensions of environmental sustainability and climate crisis as well as the challenges that they pose for leading and managing Indian organizations. They are expected to come to the workshop with a case development proposal which they will develop into a teaching case and an accompanying teaching note during the workshop. IIMB faculty members will work intensely with them during the three days mentoring and guiding them, and providing them feedback. These hands-on sessions will be complemented by structured inputs on relevant topics such as the research process that goes behind case development, the pros and cons of different kinds of teaching cases, how to manage the relationship with focal organizations and protagonists during the case development process, and how to navigate the peer-review process.

For most promising cases, the mentoring by IIMB faculty may continue even after the workshop, till the cases are published by HBP.

The workshop structure and schedule is mentioned below.
