Centre for Teaching and Learning hosts the 4th edition of the Nurturing Future Leadership Programme
Senior IIMB faculty delivered leadership development sessions for HEI academics and leaders
13 January, 2026, Bengaluru: The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at IIMB hosted the fourth cohort of the ‘Nurturing Future Leadership Programme’ under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The programme, held from the 25 to 29 of August 2025, saw a rich representation of senior faculty from Institutes of National Importance (INIs), central and state government universities, as well as private universities. The residential programme held at the IIMB campus immersed participants in an environment of sharing of best practices, knowledge transfer and training.
Professor Sushanta K. Mishra, the programme chair and the chairperson of CTL, addressed the participants at the inaugural session, highlighting the objectives and design of the NFLP and introducing IIMB and the programme resource persons to the participants.
Each of the following sessions were designed to nurture the leadership skills of future heads of higher educational institutions (HEIs), in accordance with MMTTP and as per the guidelines set by the NEP. Senior faculty members and leadership of IIMB ensured knowledge transfer through lectures, case studies, interactive workshops, peer experience sharing, group discussions, exercises and presentations.
Professor Mishra, faculty member of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management (OB&HRM) area, introduced the role of leadership through effective collaboration and teamwork.
Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Professor In-charge, New Campus and Former Director of IIMB, who has played a key role as a mentor and board member in many eminent academic institutions, stressed the role of leaders in institution building. The two-part session focused on both the personal growth of faculty members as academic leaders as well as the tools to create institutional success.
Professor Shankar Venkatagiri, Chairperson, Information Systems, used the case study method in a detailed case and group discussions to internalize negotiation skills. The animated discussions among participants were moderated by the professor, and the key learnings were highlighted to the participants.
Professor Rejie George Pallathitta, Chairperson, Strategy area, dove deep into strategic thinking and planning via a case study. He also elaborated on the relevance of strategy in building strong educational institutions.
Professor Anil B Suraj, Chairperson, NSR Pre-doc, Chairperson, Committee on Diversity and Inclusion, and faculty of Public Policy, led a conversational lecture on institutional legal aspects and fostering equity and inclusivity, especially highlighting the role of equal opportunities and sensitivity in academic institutions.
Professor Mukta Kulkarni, Dean of Programmes and faculty of the OB&HRM area, used various situations to stimulate the analysis of human behaviour in decision making and the relevance of managing unconscious biases. The session saw participants debating the nuances of decisions taken by leaders in education and their implications.
Dean of Faculty and Dean of Alumni Relations and Development Professor Sourav Mukherji led the discussion on the role of institutional leaders in creating a sustainable society. Deep diving into inclusiveness and sustainability, Prof. Mukherji sparked relevant conversations to prepare faculty members to lead future-ready, equitable, socially responsible educational institutions.
Professor Gopal Mahapatra, Chairperson, OB&HRM area, helped the faculty members to critically analyse themselves using custom-built tools and instruments. Prof. Mahapatra also elaborated on emotional resilience and self-management for faculty members and bodies.
Professor U Dinesh Kumar, Director In-charge, IIMB, conducted a hands-on session on data analytics, training professors on the latest trends in analytics. He also moderated an open discussion on Artificial Intelligence and its use of the same in educational institutions in his session on Data-Driven Decision Making.
Professor Malavika Harita, Founder-CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi Focus and Distinguished Alumna of IIMB, introduced and dealt with Communication for ROI and gave practical pointers for academicians in the current times, especially sensitizing them to communication requirements viz. a viz. various stakeholders in the education system.
For the assessment, participants of the NFLP’s fourth cohort were divided into small groups for discussions and presentations on challenges and possible solutions to those challenges. Innovative cross learning and sharing of best practices were facilitated.
The programme was designed and successfully delivered for faculty members from across the country and across various departments and specializations who have the potential and are expected to emerge as academic leaders in the years to come.
