The ranking, under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), was announced by MHRD today
4 April 2016: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore has topped the list of best management institutes in the ‘India Ranking 2016’ – the first-ever national ranking of universities by the Government.
The ‘India Ranking 2016’, prepared by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), was unveiled by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani at Vigyan Bhawan today. IIM Bangalore was ranked the ‘Best Management Institute’ in India.
“IIM Bangalore’s top ranking bears testimony to its innovative approach to management education and is a recognition of the global aspiration of its faculty, students and the management, to deliver excellence and eminence for IIMB”, said Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIMB.
Professor R Srinivasan, Director Incharge, IIM Bangalore, said: “We are truly delighted to be at the very top in the management school rankings, although honestly we are not surprised. This rank reflects the talent and efforts of our faculty, students and staff.”
All 122 centrally funded institutions, including central universities, IITS and IIMs, participated in the first round of the ranking. The institutes were then divided primarily under two categories: ‘Category A’ covering autonomous institutes with a great focus on research and ‘Category B’ that comprised colleges and centres affiliated to a university with a focus on teaching.
The institutes were ranked on various parameters, including Perception among students, alumni, parents, employees and public, Teaching/Learning Resources, Research Professional Practice & Collaborative Performance, Graduation Outcomes, and Outreach/Inclusivity. The data collected by the institutes was then verified by NIRF.
The survey listed top 10 universities, and engineering, management and pharmaceutical institutes of the country.
