PGP Orientation Week includes field trips to NGOs in city

The incoming batch of 2017-19 visits Surabhi Foundation Trust, ChildFund India, Snehadhara Foundation, Desire Society, SOS Children’s Village and Sathya Sai Anandam led by Vikasana, IIMB students’ social service club

23 June 2017, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore welcomed the new batch of 405 students of the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) on June 15, 2017. The orientation week included a plethora of activities, including sensitizing the students to the problems of the socially marginalized communities.

The three-day sensitization program kicked off with a session on ‘Humans of IIMB’, followed by a visit to the NGOs - Surabhi Foundation Trust and ChildFund India. Both these foundations aim to bring about a social impact by serving the needy, deprived and underprivileged and creating positive change in their communities.

Day 2 started with a discussion and presentation by the Snehadhara Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to provide an environment suited for learning to children and young adults, regardless of their disabilities, using Art Based Therapy and Education for Inclusion. Post this session, the students were taken to the Desire Society and the SOS Children’s Village. Desire Society is an NGO working towards transforming lives of children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The SOS Children’s Village works towards providing care and creating communities for those orphaned and abandoned or whose families are unable to care for them, by creating a supportive environment for all of them.

The third day had students visiting the Sathya Sai Anandam in Muddenahalli, where the students interacted with members of the Sri Sathya Sai Saraswathi Education Trust and the Annapoorna Trust, to learn about the operations of the trusts, their business models and the impact in the adjoining villages. The visit also included interacting with children from a government school.
