IIMB’s one-year MBA students host ‘SPARSH’, the annual Alumni Connect event, on Jan 5

IIMB’s one-year MBA students host ‘SPARSH’, the annual Alumni Connect event, on Jan 5

08 January, Bengaluru: Students of the one-year MBA, the Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), at IIM Bangalore, hosted the annual EPGP Alumni Connect event, ‘SPARSH’, on campus, on January 5 (Sunday).

SPARSH is an annual meetup that invites alumni of the previous batches of the program, working across diverse domains and industries, to reconnect and share their experiences with the current batch of students at IIMB, their alma mater.

This year, Prof. Manaswini Bhalla, from the Economics & Social Sciences area at IIMB, led a panel discussion on ‘Women in Business’ with EPGP alumni Sukanya Roy, Director at Zinnov Management Consulting, Shailesh Kumar, Sr. Manager, GTM Strategy & Planning at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Jaya Jha, Global Sales Origination and Strategy Lead at Accenture, and Rima Bose, Cybersecurity Consultant at IBM.

On being asked about how women can deal with the stereotypes and challenges they face at work, Jaya, an experienced professional and mother of two young kids, replied: “Owning a purpose to life, learning to be flexible, taking help, building a support system and a network, leveraging the strengths of family, and holding the right intentions can all help.”

Leading a team of professionals comprising 60% of women, Shailesh said women bring in a very different perspective to deal with situations at work that others might not think of. He believes that it is essential to have women role models for other women to look up to, promote diversity and inclusion, validate their efforts in public, introduce culture shift, and stay connected at the workplace.

Professor K Kumar, Dean, Alumni Relations & Development, addressed the alumni and students at the event on recent developments at IIMB and encouraged them to contribute towards institute’s and students’ welfare.

The second panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Ramya Ranganathan, on ‘Managing Mid-Career Progression’, comprised panellists and EPGP alumni Harshit Kumar, Sr. Product Manager of Office 365 at Microsoft, Abishek Surendran, Partner at pi Ventures, Priyanka Vats, Business & Technology Integration Manager at Accenture, and Sanket Das, Consulting & Implementation Services, SAP Concur.

The one-day event ended on a high note with a cultural fiesta by the students of EPGP 2020.
