Prof. B Mahadevan to deliver Special Lecture— ‘In pursuit of happiness: Professional and Personal Dimensions’ on 3 September

The lecture will mark his voluntary retirement after 31 years of service at IIMB

2 September, 2024, Bengaluru: Prof. B Mahadevan from the Production and Operations area is taking Voluntary Retirement from the services of IIM Bangalore with effect from 1 September 2024 after a service of 31 years at the Institute. To mark the occasion, Prof. Mahadevan will be delivering a Special Lecture on ‘In pursuit of happiness: Professional and Personal Dimensions’ at 3.30 PM in the IIMB Auditorium on 3 September. The lecture will be followed by a formal farewell to him.

Prof. Mahadevan obtained his PhD and M. Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and BE from Anna University Chennai. His research interests include Emerging Market Structure in B2B eCommerce, order Allocation Issues in Electronic Markets, Business Model Innovation, Spirituality in workplace, Management Paradigms from Bhagavat Gita, Ancient Indian Wisdom & Management etc. He is widely published, and his research has appeared in leading international journals. Besides research papers, his contributions include books, book chapters, white papers and several popular cases. His notable academic books include Operations Management: Theory and Practice, and The New Manufacturing Architecture.    

At IIMB, Prof. Mahadevan taught courses in Operations Management, Inspirational Leadership Lessons from the Gita, Management Paradigms from the Bhagavad Gita, Ancient Indian Wisdom and Contemporary Applications in Management, E-sourcing, Supply Chain Management, Lean Management, Just-in-Time and Lean Production, Management of services, Service Quality, Services Supply chain, etc. Being a highly regarded teacher, he has been recognized for excellence in teaching and figured among the top teaching faculty at the institute in several programmes on multiple occasions. Besides recognition at IIMB, he was awarded the ICFAI Best Teacher award by AIMS.  He was also the winner in the ISB-Ivey Case competition.  

Prof. Mahadevan is an accomplished scholar of Ancient Indian Wisdom and has written prolifically on that. His recent book: ‘Introduction to Indian Knowledge System: Concepts and Applications’, is a first of its kind in the country. He also served as a Member of the Central Sanskrit Board. He was also the founding vice chancellor of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, a University for applied Sanskrit and Indian Wisdom. 

Besides exemplary performance in teaching and research, Prof. Mahadevan’s contributions to institutional service have been outstanding. At IIMB, he held several senior administrative positions. Major ones include, Dean-Administration, Member-BoG, Member-FDEC, Chairperson -POM Area and Member -Long Term Vision Committee, Chief Editor, IIMB Management Review among others. He also served on the boards of several business schools, professional bodies and management journals in the country and abroad.  

We thank Prof. Mahadevan for his dedicated service and contributions to the Institute and wish him a very happy and healthy retired life.
