Summary

Dr. Kanchan Mukherjee is currently Professor and Chairperson of the Doctoral Program at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He has a B.Tech. from IIT Kanpur, MBA from IIM Calcutta and PhD in Decision Sciences from INSEAD, France. His research interest is in behavioral decision making. He has published in leading academic journals like PNAS, Psychological Review, Management Science, Psychological Science, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making and Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory and Cognition.  He is a recipient of the Hillel Einhorn Award from the Society of Judgment and Decision Making and his research has been featured extensively in various press and media outlets. He won the “Lifestyle for Environment” (LiFE) Global Call for Ideas & Papers, a sustainability effort launched by India’s PM, Shri Narendra Modi at COP26, Glasgow. He has also consulted for the Government of India on policy matters of national importance.

His current research involves large scale field studies on reducing energy use in airconditioned hotel rooms as well as a multiyear study on inducing water conservation behavior in households. He is also exploring how Gen AI affects group dynamics.
