Centre for Teaching and Learning hosts ‘Workshop for Developing Business Case Studies’, from 4th to 6th October 2023

9 October 2023, Bengaluru: The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at IIM Bangalore hosted the ‘Workshop for Developing Business Case Studies’, from 4th to 6th October 2023, as part of the Golden Jubilee activities of the institute. The event was supported by Wipro Foundation’s sustainability wing.

The 3-day workshop, a first-of-its-kind from IIMB, was attended by academicians, government officials, and industry leaders/practitioners from across the country. The academicians included faculty members from IIM Amritsar, IIM Raipur, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Birla Institute of Technology (Pilani campus), and Goa Institute of Management. There were also attendees from the industry, comprising officials from Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and leaders from organizations like Larsen & Toubro, SuperGaming, Mercuri Goldmann India Pvt. Ltd., Packt Publishing, etc.

Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Dean (Faculty) at IIMB, inaugurated the workshop, along with Prof. Sushanta K Mishra, Chairperson of the Centre for Teaching and Learning. The inaugural ceremony was also graced by Mr. Narayan P. S., the Global Head of Sustainability and Social Initiatives at Wipro Ltd. Mr. Narayana shared his insights on the various initiatives taken by Wipro to inculcate the concept of sustainability in the education sector as well as in business.

Prof. Sourav Mukherji and Prof. Debolina Dutta were the programme directors for this event, who spearheaded every training session over the three days of the workshop. The workshop provided the participants with a hands-on experience in developing teaching cases and teaching notes, with a focus on sustainability.

On the first day of the workshop, the participants were introduced to the basics of case writing and teaching, along with a few resource materials. Each participant then applied their learnings and knowledge acquired from the training to present self-written case studies on the second day. The participants came up with interesting and diverse topics of discussion spanning industries—finance, fashion, legal, online learning, and so on.

This was followed by a training session on how to write teaching notes supporting a case study, where Prof. Mukherji and Prof. Dutta threw light on the key elements of a teaching note. Based on their understanding and case-related research, the participants formulated and presented their individual teaching notes on the cases that they developed during the workshop. Throughout the workshop, the program directors were actively involved in guiding and assisting the participants in their writing process to help them bring out the best output.

The program directors concluded the event with a valediction and presented the participants with certificates.
