Inauguration of PhD Students’ Cubicle at IIMB Library on 21 August 2025

New dedicated space designed to foster collaboration and research among doctoral scholars

21 August, 2025, Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), inaugurated the newly developed PhD cubicle spaces on the second floor of the IIMB Library on 21st August 2025. The state-of-the-art facility has been designed to foster research, collaboration, and innovation among students of the Doctoral Programme  at IIMB.

The new infrastructure consists of over 140 individual cubicles, two discussion-cum-meeting rooms, two conference rooms, a dedicated printer room, and a leisure room, offering students a balanced environment for both focused research and informal interaction.

Speaking at the inauguration, Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Professor In-charge, New Campus, emphasized the role of students in shaping the space. “The inputs from PhD students were highly appreciable in creating this integrated space, ensuring it meets their academic and collaborative needs,” he noted.

Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Director In-charge, IIMB, highlighted the academic value of the new cubicles, “The PhD Cubicle will open avenues for innovation and collaboration among researchers, which will in turn enhance productivity and add to journal publications. This achievement was made possible by the dedicated contributions of Prof. Ananth Krishnamurthy, Former Chairperson, PhD, Decision Sciences area, IIMB, the estate team, PhD students, and all workers involved in the project.”

Col. (Retd.) S.D. Aravendan, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), shared the journey behind the project’s completion. He shared, “We had a lot of discussions, and the project lead provided direction and planning that shaped this initiative. The development was delayed due to COVID, but once the pandemic eased, we received strong support from the then PhD Chair, Prof. Ananth Krishnamurthy, faculty, staff, and the students. Additional space was arranged on the first floor for the faculty, which gave further momentum. Today, I am pleased to see the project fully completed and ready for use.”

Adding his note, Prof. M Jayadev, Dean Administration, encouraged students to make the most of the facility, “I urge the PhD scholars to use this space effectively for your benefit and growth.”

The project has finally come to fruition through the collective efforts of faculty, staff, and students. It represents not only an investment in infrastructure but also in the future of research at IIMB.
