Centre for Public Policy to host expert talk on ‘Matsya Nyaya through the Kautilyan lens: A discussion on Kautilya’s views on Inequality’ on 19th September

The talk would be based on the recent book, ‘Kautilyanomics: For Modern Times’ authored by economist Sriram Balasubramanian

07 September, 2022, Bengaluru: The Centre for Public Policy (CPP) at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will host an expert talk, ‘Matsya Nyaya through the Kautilyan lens: A discussion on Kautilya’s views on Inequality’, based on the recent book, ‘Kautilyanomics: For Modern Times’ authored by economist Sriram Balasubramanian, on 19th September 2022 (Monday), from 07.00 pm onwards. 

The talk by Sriram Balasubramanian, which would be based on the context of the book, will be followed by a Q&A session, to be moderated by Dr. B Mahadevan, Professor of Production & Operations Management and lead author of the recently published book, Introduction to Indian Knowledge Systems.

About the book: Published by Bloomsbury in August this year, the book deals with Kautilya’s economic thinking and its contextual relevance in India. It attempts to provide a structure to Kautilya’s economic thinking, linking the same to modern economic ideas, and also highlights its relevance in today’s world. 

About the author: Sriram Balasubramanian is a well-known economist and author. His areas of interest include global macroeconomics, socio-economic trends in emerging markets and Indic/Dharmic culture. He has written for several international publications, such as Bloomberg, Foreign Policy, The Wall Street Journal and VoxEU, among others, as an independent columnist and has been an independent panellist on CNBCTV18. He has authored two books, JAMBA: The Joint Family (shortlisted for the Third Annual IAAC Literary Festival organized by the Indo-American Arts Council) and The Wizards, which has been featured in varied publications, including The Hindu. He was an international junior chess player and is an alumnus of Columbia University, New York.

About the Centre for Public Policy: The Centre for Public Policy at IIM Bangalore is an independent public interest-oriented policy think tank engaged in pioneering research, teaching, training and capacity-building. The centre, established in 2000 through a partnership agreement between the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India (GoI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and IIMB, aspires to lead policy thinking and praxis in India, promoting equitable, inclusive and sustainable solutions to the concerns of citizens and public governance.
