IIM Bangalore’s Centre for Public Policy to host talk ‘LivingMyPromise’ on April 12
08 April, 2019, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore’s Centre for Public Policy (CPP) will host a talk ‘LivingMyPromise’ on April 12 (Friday), 2019, from 04.00 pm to 05.30 pm, at Classroom N-101, IIMB.
The talk will give an opportunity to those interested to learn more about LivingMyPromise and interact with two of the promissors who have signed up for LivingMyPromise – Professor V Raghunathan and Girish Batra.

Inspired by ‘Giving Pledge’ of Melinda Gates, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet wherein the wealthy commit minimum 50% of their wealth to charity while they are alive or in their will, LivingMyPromise gives the same opportunity to upper middle-class Indians to come forward and donate 50% of their wealth to a charity/cause of their choice.
Prof. Raghunathan has been an academic for a significant part of his professional life, a banker for a while and in a CSR role thereafter. He was a professor for Finance and Accounting at IIM Ahmedabad from 1982-2001. He was President for ING Vysya Bank from 2001 to 2004 and is in GMR Group heading their CSR Foundation. He is also the Head-India Campus of Schulich School of Business, Toronto, Canada. He is a columnist and author and has authored more than 10 books, the latest being 'Journey to Jammu' published in 2018. Raghu has played chess at the national level and loves collecting old and antique locks. He is married to Meena, a former Environment Educationalist and now a Community Services Professional. Meena and Raghu are among the first signatories of LivingMyPromise.
Girish Batra has been in the corporate sector, with enriching experience in a Fortune 500 company and an Indian SME. He spend 12 years in the Consumer Durables space. He was in Whirlpool from 2000 to 2009 as the Director (Sales). Post Whirlpool, Girish spent eight years with the Lohia group where he became CEO of Threads Indian Ltd. He also tried his hand at establishing a start-up in real estate – Milgaya, which raised seed funding of INR 1 crore.
In 2017, Girish founded the Glocal Projects Pvt Ltd, an Idea stage start-up incubator dedicated to college students. He is an avid reader and always looks at theory to see how it could be put into practice. He has authored the seminal book 'Experiments in Leadership', which was published in 2018. Girish is married to Tanu, a Yoga teacher, painter and life coach. Tanu and Girish are among the first signatories of LivingMyPromise.
