CTL Hosts FDP for Post Graduate Institute of Management, Sri Lanka
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), IIMB, conducted an international Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on April 16 and April 17, 2025, for 19 delegates from the Post Graduate Institute of Management (PIM), Sri Lanka.
The two-day immersive programme was inaugurated by Prof. R Srinivasan, senior faculty of Strategy. Aimed at knowledge sharing of best practices at IIMB, the sessions were led by senior faculty members of IIMB and curated to the needs of PIM.
Prof. Srinivasan set the context by introducing the participating faculty to postgraduate and executive teaching in management. He stressed taking a matured approach when it comes to translating management and other fields of higher education. He elaborated on the need for distinct teaching methodology and styles for each faculty member based on their own experiences with the students and in classrooms. The need to embrace technology and stay in tune with real life scenario developments within classrooms was highlighted and examples of alternate teaching methodology and style were shared.
Prof. Sushanta K Mishra, faculty of OB & HRM and Chairperson of CTL, delivered an engaging session focused on ‘Case Teaching Methodology’. He customized a classroom lecture demonstration of a case study curated for the participants that highlighted the methodology and effectiveness of case method as a teaching tool and stressed on the focus on learning objectives for cases.
Prof. Varun Jindal, faculty of Finance & Accounting, shared an insightful take on preparing and delivering impactful lectures. He conducted a teaching session on corporate finance, drawing attention to the need to standardize content for the average student while actively engaging the high performers. Prof. Jindal also demonstrated quantitative teaching effectiveness along with soft skills like storytelling and humor to make learning more effective.
Prof. Srinivasan’s next sessions focused on effective measurement of teaching and learning through teacher evaluation and student evaluation respectively. He underlined the efficacy of transparency in systems as well as uniform and clearly communicated policies and evaluation mechanisms. Further, he touched upon designing and delivering leadership programmes with industry-ready teaching pedagogy that could be applied by senior and part-time students.
Prof. Sourav Mukherji conducted an open house session which began with sharing the IIMB accreditation journey especially the benefits and associated limitations. This was followed by a question & answer round that threw light on the comparative benefits of each of the accreditors and the ownership of such processes within the institution.
The programme concluded with a Special Address by Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIMB. He briefly interacted with the Sri Lankan delegates, sharing insights on the scope for future collaborations targeted towards faculty enrichment.
