A music concert by Jogappa folk singers on Feb 02
30 January, 2018: Solidarity Foundation, QUEst, a students’ diversity and inclusion club at IIMB, and Vikasana, a social impact club at IIMB, invite you to hear the Jogappa folk singers of North Karnataka. The magic will come alive on Friday, February 02, 2018, at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore Campus, on Bannerghatta Road, between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Entry is free.
This unique effort aims to spotlight a marginalised rural community and their dying folk tradition. It comes on the heels of successful performances by this team of Jogappas (Siddappa and Dawal Saheb (Bibi Saheb) of Bijapur District (Kannada) and Laxman Bhonsle, Sagar Bhaskar and Rakhi (Satish) Pasare of Belgaum District (Marathi).
“This event, we hope, will help people recognise the essential dignity of the transgender people and help us accept them as equals. We want to celebrate the courage and talent of transcommunities from around this country,” says Shubha Chacko, director, Solidarity Foundation – a registered trust working with sexual minorities and sex workers.
