I am Antra, doctoral candidate in decision sciences area at IIM Bangalore. Well in one breath my journey has been nothing more than peaks and valleys. The two year course work is really demanding and requires consistency and dedication. There are challenging times because a lot has to be done in a limited time frame. I joined DS at IIMB with a dream to work on real world problems and develop solutions that are robust and efficient. The TAship that I have just started is another beautiful part of this PhD journey. This will help me develop skills of a good teacher and will definitely help me get placed in academia. IIMB provides a very enriching environment for research. The resources provided in terms of access to journals, databases is commendable.

The research environment of IIMB is very fulfilling with highly experienced and encouraging faculty. Decision Sciences area of IIMB provides a unique opportunity to students by exposing them to both Operations Research and Statistics. Students can also take courses from other areas like Finance and Marketing, so that they can apply techniques from Decision Sciences to these areas. Recently, the area also started a webinar series where researchers from around the globe are invited, which not only increases our exposure to various fields of research in the area, but also provides more opportunities for collaborative research.

I am Medha Gorantla, doctoral candidate in Finance and Accounting area at IIM Bangalore. IIMB’s PhD program stands unique among its peers in various aspects. The first is the two-year course work which is tailor made to suit a student’s research interests along with subjects that increase our research acumen like econometrics and statistics. The cohort is very diverse and the faculty is empathetic and has always got your back throughout the journey. I really appreciate the availability of resources at IIMB - a myriad of databases in the library and dedicated labs for different management specialisations like the Bloomberg lab, Data Center and Analytics lab, Behavioural sciences lab, etc. PhD is an enriching experience and a lot of learning and unlearning happens through the various challenges across this beautiful journey at IIMB.
