IIMB Director speaks on Strategies to Establish India

The 2019 summit held from January 17 to 20, which featured discussions on global, national and state-level agendas to bring about all round economic development for a ‘New India’, saw participation from heads of Governments from across the world, policy makers, change makers, thought leaders, academicians and researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs

25 January, 2019, Bengaluru: Professor G. Raghuram, Director, IIM Bangalore, was one of the key speakers at the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019, held from January 17 to January 20, 2019, in Ahmedabad.

The summit provided a forum for discussion on global, national and state-level agendas, to bring about all round economic development for a ‘New India’.

The summit saw pitches on investment opportunities in India for global investors, open discussions on global agendas, seminars on investment, partnership and knowledge sharing opportunities in Gujarat and India, hackathons and pitching forums for start-ups and innovators.

Professor Raghuram delivered the theme address during the inaugural session of the seminar titled, ‘Port-Led Development and Strategies to Establish India as the Trans-shipment Hub of Asia’, on Day 2 of the conference.

He touched upon Geo Political Developments, Significance of Gujarat, Competitive Advantage, Energy and Containerization as the Major Drivers, Potential for Trans-shipment, Supply Chain Management, and Focus on Human Resources.

He said, “Asia is witnessing strong development and becoming the economic growth centre of the world. To keep up with this growth by leveraging the maritime sector, Gujarat and India need quality human resources (beyond just technical manpower) in: Infrastructure Management and Public Private Partnerships, Supply Chain Management, Port Management, Finance, Maritime Law, and Safety and Environmental Protection. Inspired, innovative and informed human resources would be the key.”

The conference was attended by heads of Governments from across the world, policy makers, heads of global multilateral development organizations, global and Indian CxOs, global change makers, thought leaders, academicians and researchers, youth icons and motivators, innovators, and entrepreneurs, Chambers of Commerce and industry associations, venture capitalists, PE investors and angel funds, micro, small and medium enterprises.
