IIMB continues to inspire

May 9, 2015: Anusmaran 2015, the flagship alumni event of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), organized today, witnessed a number of entrepreneurs. Anusmaran not just brings together the alumni to revisit their glorious days, but also provides opportunities to build a better tomorrow, a better India.

Professor Pranav Garg, Assistant Professor, Corporate Strategy & Policy Area, IIMB PGP '02, kick-started the program by throwing light on the importance of the alumni body in the lives of IIMB students. Mr. Harish Mittal, President of the IIMB Alumni Association (Bengaluru Chapter), spoke about the first-of-its-kind Alumni Conclave, IIMBUE, to be organized in Bengaluru in December 2015.

Mr. Arunachalam Muruganantham, CEO, Jayaashree Industries, the man who started the silent ‘Pink Revolution’ was the keynote speaker of the event. Mr. Muruganatham created the world’s first low-cost machine to produce sanitary napkins at a time when 88% of Indian women were compelled to use ash, newspapers, dry leaves, sawdust, and the sort, during their menses. Being a social entrepreneur, he said, “Don’t look for an opportunity, look for a problem and then be a solution provider.” He is the perfect example of an entrepreneur who has relied on the trial-and-error method to create innovative solutions and thereby jobs in rural areas.

Another highlight of Anusamaran 2015 was a discussion in which distinguished panelists shared their entrepreneurial journeys.

Mr. Naga Prakasam, Angel Investor, and Mentor NSRCEL IIMB, Fund Advisor, was the moderator of the panel discussion.

Ms. Stuthi Vijayaraghavan, CEO of AgileStrat, IIMB PGP ’96, is involved in projects that aim to build low cost housing. She claims that the biggest problem in this venture is that there are more downs than ups because building low cost housing is not as easy as it sounds.

Mr. Vivek Prabhakar, CEO and Co-Founder of Chumbak Design Pvt. Ltd, built his company using his creativity and aesthetic skills along with his knowledge of the Indian market. Chumbak is founded on the idea of that Indian youth of today proudly wear their country on their sleeve.

Mr. Amuleek Singh Bijral, brand custodian of Chai Point, and Founder and CEO of Mountain Trail Foods Pvt. Ltd, believes in scaling the market by making consumers want to buy the product. As he said, “We’ve made a lot of mistakes, but we got into it to build a brand, which is inspirational”.

Mr. Srinivas Krishnaswamy, Co-Founder of Krya, IIMB PGP ’01, built his company on the theme of sustainable urban living. His company produces eco-friendly products by striking a balance between traditional Indian knowledge and modern needs.Krya products are a step towards sustainable growth.

Another exciting taste to the platter was Punch Tantraa, a radical mime theatre group that performed its award winning spoofs of well-known advertisements which had the audience in splits.

Anusmaran 2015 was clearly more than just an alumni meet; it was indeed a platform to engage, energize, and enhance.
