Digital DNA is redefining ecosystem of abundance: Head of Business Analytics, TCS

December 05, Bengaluru: Industry leaders and speakers from corporates like TCS, Cisco, LinkedIn, VMware, Bain & Co., IBM, Aditya Birla Management, TVS Motors addressed critical questions around the role of analytics in solving business problems at the 7th International Conference on Business Analytics and Intelligence hosted by the Data Centre and Analytics Lab (DCAL) at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB).

Housed at IIMB, DCAL is a research and training lab which supports interdisciplinary empirical research using data on Indian and other emerging markets.

Analytics and Big Data Technologies have become a competitive strategy for many companies. Through this three-day conference, DCAL at IIM Bangalore provides a platform for Analytics and Big Data professionals to create and disseminate knowledge in the field of Analytics.

On Thursday, the first day of the conference, Venkatesan Sukumaran, Head of Business Analytics, TCS, shared experiences from his industry practice. He said, “Businesses are changing and redefining themselves in terms of having more hyperconnected customers, leveraging the larger ecosystem for data and connections, driving higher productivity, and taking controlled risks.”

Answering a question from the audience on how AI will transform the future of learning, Vikas Gupta, Managing Director, Wiley India, explained: “Whatever you learn today should give you a royalty for life; you need to learn today what will make you relevant tomorrow. We need to find patterns that we call algorithms in AI. If you find patterns in learning which allow you to attain a set of skills, you can become relevant in the coming era, and that is what learning is.”

Besides hearing perspectives from academics and industry leaders, delegates get the opportunity to present their research in the analytics domain on real-life problems/data at the conference, which will conclude on December 07, 2019.

View Price from customers’ perspective, it defines value: Senior Specialist of Data Science, Bain & Company

The second day of the Seventh International Conference on Business Analytics and Intelligence at IIMB, one of the most prestigious gatherings for students, academicians, and corporate practitioners, witnessed plenary sessions and panel discussion with speakers expressing their views on AI.

The speakers were from Bain & Company, Sabre Airline Solutions, SatSure, ISDC, Jiffy, IBM, and TVS Motor Group.

Aman Goswami, a Senior Specialist of Data Science, Bain & Company, shared his thoughts on whether ‘The Price is Right?’ at the conference. “Today, B2C is having a major influence on B2B and vice versa. It’s creating democratization of the marketplace. Analytical algorithms can optimize the pricing process enabling the right prices for the right products at the right time in both spaces,” he observed.

A panel of experts discussed ‘AI First – Opportunities and Challenges’. The speakers in the panel included Mahesh Calavai, Chief Data & Analytics Officer at TVS Motor Group, Teresa Jacobs, Executive Director at ISDC, Maneesh Bhandari, Global Analytics leader at IBM, and Payeli Ghosh, Founder & Partner at Jiffy. The panel was moderated by Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Chair, DCAL, IIMB.

A cultural program was also organized in the evening with music and dance performances by Kalatva Band and Aayana Dance Company, respectively.
