12 February, 2021, Bengaluru: A paper titled, ‘Systemic banking crises, financial market development, & firms’ leverage’, authored by Ankit Kariya, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) scholar of IIM Bangalore in the Finance & Accounting area, has won the Best Paper Award at the IMR Doctoral Conference (IMRDC) 2021, held online by IIMB from February 04 to 06, 2021.

IMRDC is an annual doctoral consortium co-organized by IIMB Management Review, IIMB’s flagship academic quarterly and the Office of the Doctoral Programme of the institute. IMRDC aims to encourage research and scholarship among doctoral students in Management Science. The Chairs of IMRDC 2021 were Prof. Pearl Malhotra of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area and Prof. Tirthatanmoy Das of the Economics & Social Sciences area.

This year, in its twelfth edition, IMRDC received 90 papers across areas from several institutions in India. There were submissions from international universities as well. Of the 90 submissions, 10 were selected for presentation after three rounds of review. The papers selected for final presentation had a dedicated discussant to critique the paper and offer comments and constructive feedback.

There were many submissions for Best Critique award this year. The IMRDC 2021 Best Critique Award was won by Sajad S Santhosh for his critique of the presentation of the paper: ‘Women’s Empowerment and Intimate Partner Violence: Evidence from a Multi-dimensional Policy in India’ by Prashant Poddar of IIM Lucknow.

Prof. Haritha Saranga, Chairperson, Doctor of Philosophy, IIMB and faculty in the Production & Operations Management area, congratulated the winners on their achievement and thanked the students of the PhD and N.S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship (NSR Pre-doc) programmes for their contribution as volunteers to IMRDC 2021, which made the first-time-ever virtual IMRDC a success.
