Compassion and human dignity come before all else, says Director In-charge in his special address

15 AUGUST, 2025: Bengaluru: “In a world of uncertainty, war, conflict and strife, India – with her immense wisdom and compassion – has the opportunity to lead the way forward,” said Professor U Dinesh Kumar, Director In-charge, IIM Bangalore, in his Independence Day address, after hoisting the tricolor, this morning, on campus.

The flag hoisting was followed by the national anthem rendered by the entire IIMB community.

Drawing from India’s rich philosophical and spiritual heritage, Professor Dinesh Kumar appealed to everyone to treat one another with dignity and respect. Listing the Institute’s contributions to nation building, he highlighted a few key milestones in the recent past, including the launch of UG programs, setting up of the country’s first centre of excellence for private equity and venture capital research, and IIMB’s sustainability initiatives.

His address was followed by the announcement of special awards for members of the IIMB community who went beyond the call of duty. Ms Manjula, from the one-year fulltime MBA program office (EPGP), Mr Lokapriya V, from the transport office, Professor Haritha Saranga, chairperson of IIMB’s Sustainability Task Force, and the entire security team of the Institute, were felicitated for their contributions.

Student members of the IIMB music club Dhwani and the IIMB dance society Taal mesmerized the audience with their spell-binding renditions of patriotic songs, and the theatre troupe presented a thought-provoking nukkad natak (street play). Children of the IIMB community enthralled with their spirited singing.

As always, Independence Day at IIMB was a high energy event. The deans, members of the faculty body, students, the Chief Administrative Officer, the staff and their families participated with enthusiasm.
