The Institute’s CSR spend helps PHC upgrade its medical infrastructure
20 January, 2022: On behalf of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, Professor Rajendra K Bandi, Dean Administration, handed over medical supplies and equipment, totalling Rs 20 lakh, as part of the Institute’s CSR activity, to Dr Krishnappa B K, Senior Medical Officer, Kodichikkanahalli PHC, this morning, in a brief open-air meeting that followed COVID protocols, on campus. This initiative of IIM Bangalore supports the Primary Health Centre in Kodichikkanahalli, which is in Bommanahalli zone, in upgrading its current medical infrastructure.
“This PHC is in closest proximity to IIM Bangalore and this effort is to help the community in the vicinity of the Institute,” said Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore.
“The medical team from Kodichikkanahalli PHC has also been very proactive throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and has helped the Institute by conducting over 4,000 RTPCR tests and holding a vaccination camp. We, as an Institute, believe in acknowledging their efforts and giving back to the community, especially in these challenging times,” said Professor Bandi.
Acknowledging and thanking the Board of Governors of IIM Bangalore, for approving the CSR spend, Professor Rishikesha Krishnan said IIMB’s Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Ravikumar K R and Dean (Administration) Professor Rajendra K Bandi had visited the Kodichikkanahalli PHC, in order to take note of its requirements to effectively serve the local population. “Our RMO and Dean held discussions with the medical officer at the PHC and his team. Subsequently, the PHC submitted a list of required medical equipment and supplies, the estimated cost of which was Rs 20 lakh. The proposal was placed before the IIMB Board by the COVID Management Steering Committee of the Institute and the Board approved the spend,” Professor Rishikesha Krishnan added.
Apart from this CSR initiative, the IIMB community supported the Ketto campaign to raise funds for St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, last year. A campaign, run by faculty members’ families, had reached out to the transgender community in Bengaluru, during the second wave of the pandemic. There was fundraising on campus to provide dry ration to those in need and cooked meals to relatives of patients in government hospitals. Advisory support was offered to Atria Foundation and several NGOs. A few faculty members were part of a group that went out and distributed dry rations to ensure that disadvantaged people did not go hungry.
