IIM Bangalore’s NSRCEL to host a webinar ‘Healthcare for Start-ups’ on November 20

Event to include keynote speech on ‘Demystifying healthcare for start-ups’ and panel discussion on disruptive technologies and their impact on the healthcare ecosystem

19 November, 2020, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore’s entrepreneurship and innovation centre, NSRCEL, will host a webinar titled, ‘Healthcare for Start-ups’ on November 20 (Friday), 2020, at 04:00 pm, as a prelude to a healthcare dedicated vertical within NSRCEL in a few months. Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chair, Board of Governors, IIMB, will address the participants of the webinar.

The event will start with an introduction to NSRCEL, followed by the keynote speech on ‘Demystifying healthcare for start-ups’ by Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, and conclude with a panel discussion. The esteemed panelists who represent both private hospitals and public healthcare systems will share some examples of disruptive technologies and their impact on the healthcare ecosystem.

Close on the heels of the Fintech and Mobility programs, a Healthcare vertical will soon be the third domain that NSRCEL will venture into this year. NSRCEL is in the process of creating a network of institutions such as Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre and IIIT-B along with a team of doctors to boost the venture. While Covid may have slowed down other parts of the economy, innovation is booming, especially in the healthcare space, and NSRCEL aspires to convert this innovation into sustainable enterprises.

The healthcare market in India has seen a rapid growth in the last few years and is expected to reach US $372 billion by 2022. Emerging technologies likes Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of things (IoT), Blockchain, Operating Robots and 3D Printing are building a modern technology landscape in healthcare delivery. If successfully implemented, this can reduce wait times and improve productivity greatly by minimizing human intervention in Electronic Medical Records (EMRs)/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/Hospital Information Systems (HISs). It can also be a very good tool for aiding doctors to get the differential diagnosis, alternative treatment options and cross relations to medications that are being given.

Uberization of the healthcare industry is required to radically change the way healthcare operates, and emerging technologies have the potential to positively impact the healthcare ecosystem. The healthcare industry needs to move beyond linear growth such as adding new hospitals and adding a fixed number of physicians every year, and instead look for ways to disrupt the current operating model. The webinar aims to discuss such issues at length.
