IIMB reflects on 75 Years of India's Constitution on 26 November 2024
Dr. V. S. Elizabeth, NLS Bangalore, delivered a special lecture on Dr. Ambedkar’s blueprint of equality for modern India
26 November, 2024, Bangalore: In honor of National Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, IIM Bangalore hosted a commemorative event on campus to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The occasion marked a significant reflection on the nation's journey under the guiding principles of the foundational charter of India’s democracy, adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949.
The annual observance, which serves as a reminder of India’s values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and reading of the preamble. Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore, delivered the keynote address, and spoke to the Constitution’s sustained influence in shaping India’s democratic ideals and fostering equity.
Prof. Anil B. Suraj, Public Policy area, introduced the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) V. S. Elizabeth, a Professor of History at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. Addressing an engaged audience, Dr. Elizabeth spoke on ‘75 Years of the Indian Constitution and Ambedkar’s Vision of Equality’, tracing the transformative ideals of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and their resonance in contemporary India.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Col. (Retd.) S.D. Aravendan, Chief Administrative Officer, IIMB, followed by a quiz competition centered on Constitution Day, which engaged participants from across the IIMB community.
