6 September, 2023, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore will host a talk on, ‘Laying the Foundation for a Smart Campus’, to be led by Arati Mekaraj, Techno Evangelist, Inventor, Advisor, Mentor, and Co-founder of NextScale Tech, at 3 pm on 11th September 2023, in Classroom N-001.
About the talk: Successful Smart Campus programs are goal-driven initiatives with KPIs covering efficiency, cost optimization, sustainability, user experience and regulatory requirements. Smart technologies and IoT devices combine with the physical infrastructure to reduce both cost and ecological footprint as several facility management processes can be automated. But the question remains regarding how to leverage Smart technologies without being overwhelmed by the technical complexities.
The talk by Arati Mekaraj will provide an overview of the Smart technologies in use across global campuses and their benefits. It will cover the typical Smart campus solutions, approaches for deploying such solutions, engagement models with vendors and stakeholders, and Brownfield Vs Greenfield campus differences. These aspects of Smart campus deployment will be explored using the case study of the award-winning Smart Campus of Bosch, a 76-acre campus called Spark.NXT. The talk will also examine Smart campus from an educational institute’s perspective where the smart technologies need to support the pedagogical philosophy, while future proofing the campus.
About the speaker: Arati Mekaraj is a pioneer in the field of IoT and WSN with over 25 years of experience in research and development in Next Gen technologies. She received the ‘Top inventors of Bosch’ award for the creation of 12 new product lines and more than 20 patents. Her first published work on wireless sensor networks has 4.5k+ citations. She held strategic roles in IoT Product and Solutions companies such as Harman, Bosch, Laird and ConnectM. Arati is an advisor and mentor to 20-plus start-ups and corporate teams in the space of IoT, Smart Manufacturing, AR/VR, Smart Sensors, Energy/Water Management, Smart Mobility, Blockchain, Smart Homes, etc. She headed the Bosch Startup accelerator (DNA) which was awarded the ‘Best Corporate Start-up Program, 2018’ by Zinnov.
As Program Head - Smart Campus, Arati was instrumental in the success of Bosch’s first Digital Smart Campus at Adugodi, Bengaluru, which was completed within 18 months and leverages Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, automation and digitalization capabilities. She has been involved in several implementations of Smart campuses/facilities across the globe for large corporate enterprises, cities, communities, airports and campuses.
Arati has a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Cincinnati. She is the Co-founder of NextScale Tech, a women-led consulting firm that supports companies in their technology-focused growth initiatives with sustainable, smart and inclusive solutions.
