PGPPM student selected for 64th UN Graduate Study Programme in Geneva
Madhurya Tarafder joins 57 graduate students from around the world for the United Nations' flagship programme on AI, emerging technologies and global policy
7 July, 2026, Bengaluru: Madhurya Tarafder, a student of the Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM 2025-26) at IIMB, has been selected to participate in the 64th UN Graduate Study Programme (GSP64), hosted by the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) from 29th June to 10th July 2026.
The theme for this year's programme, ‘AI and Emerging Technologies: Realities, Risks and Opportunities’, brings together 57 graduate students from across the world for an intensive two-week residential programme at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. Through lectures, discussions and collaborative policy work, participants engage with the opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technologies in the global policy landscape.
As part of the programme, Madhurya is a member of the AI & Supply Chains Working Group that is engaged in the development of a policy proposal examining the labour, environmental and governance dimensions of AI supply chains.
The programme also offers participants opportunities to engage with senior representatives from several international organizations, including the International Labour Organization (ILO), World Health Organization (WHO), Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), UN Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the European Commission. The agenda also includes a guided visit to CERN, participation in the AI for Good Global Summit, and a reception hosted by the European Union Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Madhurya noted that the experience aligns closely with the PGPPM's emphasis on preparing public policy professionals to engage with complex governance challenges at both the national and global levels.
