PGPEM cohort hosts talk on ‘How Japanese Manufacturing Firms Maintain Competitiveness for Sustainable Growth’ on 18th Feb

Speaker Masami Shimizu, Executive Office Fellow of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., discussed the topic based on his case studies and findings of Japanese manufacturing firms

20 February, 2023, Bengaluru: The cohort of IIM Bangalore’s two-year MBA for working professionals, Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), hosted Masami Shimizu, Executive Office Fellow of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., for a talk titled, ‘How Japanese Manufacturing Firms Maintain Competitiveness for Sustainable Growth’, on 18th February 2023 (Saturday).

During the session, Mr Shimizu discussed how Japanese firms choose and execute strategies to gain competitiveness in the current global manufacturing scenario. He also spoke at length about the strategies with the help of case studies and his findings, based on his lengthy and profound field study of Japanese manufacturing firms.

The case study focused on Time Based Management. His analysis showed how the company grew more than seven-fold due to time-based-management.

He also shared insights from his current doctoral research on Growth Models for SMEs. He took the engaged group through the growth journey of three companies based out of India and described their focus areas in terms of their respective strategies. His findings explained how SMEs can manage sustainable growth in changing trends from local Japan to global Asia and the equilibrium of global value chains.

The talk was followed by an interactive session with the students.
