IIMB and IISc come together to present BAICONF 2015: the International Conference on Business Analytics & Intelligence

DECEMBER 17, 2015: The third International Conference on Business Analytics and Intelligence (BAICONF 2015), hosted by the Data Centre and Analytics Lab (DCAL) of IIM Bangalore (IIMB), began on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the campus. The conference, jointly organized by IIMB and the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (IISc Bengaluru), will be held till Saturday, December 19, 2015. The meet will cover presentations on the present-day relevant topics of Advanced Data Analysis, Business Analytics, Big Data and Business Intelligence by academicians, practitioners, industry experts and researchers.

The welcome address was delivered by Professor Dinesh Kumar, IIMB faculty from the Quantitative Methods & Information Systems area, and Conference Chair“The field of Analytics is diverse; analytics helps you solve problems effectively and take decisions. Apart from the serious stuff, you can also have fun with data, understand human behaviour and take right actions, which help from the business perspective too,” he said. Quoting a few recent studies on the subject, he observed: “The importance of any analytic study is your ability to connect the dots and gain more value out of output from data. Analytics offers insights about consumers, which in turn can help you do well in business”.

Offering an overview of DCAL’s objectives and initiatives, Professor Dinesh Kumar announced that the centre would be launching a course called Big Data Analytics in the coming year.

On the subject of BAICONF 2015, he said 322 abstracts were received, 190 were shortlisted and 157 papers would be presented during the course of the conference.

Professor Mathirajan, Co-Chair of the Conference from IISc Bengaluru, announced that the next edition of the conference would be hosted by IISc between December 19 and 21, 2016.

The plenary sessions had experts sharing their insights and engaging with the audience through Q&A sessions. Mementos were presented to appreciate their contribution to the conference.

Plenary Session 1 featured discussions on ‘Analytics and Science for Growth and Consumer Experience at Flipkart’ and ‘Accelerating IT Transformation using Business’ by industry experts from Flipkart.com and EMC Corporation.

Plenary Session 2 had talks on ‘Democratization of Data’, ‘Data Visualization in Business Analytics’ and ‘Analytics in Healthcare’. The speakers for these talks were from Yodlee Infotech, Qlik Tech, India and Apollo Hospital.

Plenary Session 3 had speakers from Accenture, IIMB, Thomson Reuters, India and Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, USA, speak on ‘Marketing Head’s Conundrum’, ‘Agasthya Foundation’, ‘Leveraging Customer Insights for Analytics at Thomson Reuters’ and ‘Big Data and Information Integrity’.
