University of Edinburgh confers Honorary Doctorate of Science in Social Science on Professor Gita Sen

The University of Edinburgh has announced an Honorary Doctorate of Science in Social Science for Professor Gita Sen for her contribution to international and national policy-making in health equity and population studies.

Dr Gita Sen is Professor of Public Policy at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and Adjunct Professor of Global Health and Population, Harvard School of Public Health. She directs the Gender and Health Equity Project (GHE), which has been working since Year 2000 in Koppal district of Karnataka to improve the functioning of the public health system. She is President of the Health Economics Association of India, and a member of the Governing Council of the UN University.

She has received the Volvo Environment Prize, and honorary doctorates from Sweden's Karolinska Institute, Open University (UK), University of East Anglia, and University of Sussex.
