Professor S Raghunath, Conference Chairman said, "The world has been going through dramatic change since the Academy of International Business was founded 54 years ago. The evolution and significance of the business of transnational corporations is shaping the structure of international business. This is understandable considering the fact that the developing country share of FDI nearly doubled from 2006, rising from among 11 per cent of world total in 2006 to 17 per cent by 2011."

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Pankaj Chandra, Director, IIMB, said "International business is as fast emerging in India as it is changing in the world. This change is so rapid here, making India a scholar's delight."

He stressed that "If we did not do cutting-edge research at this juncture, we will lose a golden era to understand how emerging markets work."

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Torben Pederson, AIB Fellow, and co-editor of Global Strategy Management and Advances in International Management. He spoke on 'Emerging Markets: Implications for Practice and Theory', terming emerging markets 'the perfect laboratory'.  Technology, transportation and ICT have changed the way emerging markets have opened up, upgraded their skills and competencies and more parts of the world are now playing the same game.

The first day of the conference had a Paper Development Workshop co-chaired by Dr Elizabeth L Rose and Dr Torben Pedersen and sponsored by Academy of International Business and the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). This workshop provided an opportunity for authors to get comments on their research work from experienced researchers and thus make advances in completing their research work.

Dr Elizabeth L Rose, Professor at the University of Otago, New Zealand and Vice President, Academy of International Business (AIB) spoke on the topic 'Internationalization in the Services Sector: Challenges and Opportunities in the Service Sector' on the second day of the conference. A Doctoral Consortium where PhD students in International Business were given a chance to interact and receive high quality feedback on their research works from experienced research scholars in International Business was the highlight of the conference.

John Dineen, Global President and CEO of GE Healthcare, delivered the plenary address during the last session of the three-day conference.

The three-day conference also included paper presentations in 4 tracks led by track chairs Dr Charan Singh (IIMB), Dr Ajeet Narain Mathur (IIMA), Dr Raveendra Chittoor (ISB) and Dr Suresh Bhagavatula (IIMB). A total of 70 papers were presented at the conference.
