Third Biennial Supply Chain Management Conference held at IIM Bangalore

The Third Biennial Supply Chain Management Conference was inaugurated on December 14, 2012 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). The two-day conference had "Building Efficient Retail Supply Chain" as the theme of the conference, which was jointly organized by the EADS-SMI Chair for Sourcing and Supply Management, IIM Bangalore and the Supply Chain Management Centre, IIM Bangalore.

At the inaugural session, Professor Devanath Tirupati, Conference Chair and Chair Professor of EADS-SMI Endowed Chair and Chairperson, Supply Chain Management Centre, gave a brief introduction on the theme and purpose of the conference, which aims to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to meet and share current developments and major challenges in the field of sourcing and supply chain. IIMB Director Professor Pankaj Chandra then gave an address outlining the rapid changes taking place in the field of logistics and supply chain management, and the potential for transforming the rural landscape.

Chief Transformation Officer of the Future Group Mr Manoj Agarwal delivered the keynote address. His presentation provided insights into world-class technologies being utilized in supply chain management in India, as well the challenges faced in the local context. This address was followed by a Q&A session with several members of the audience actively engaging on the topic.   

At the first plenary, Professor Anantaram Balakrishnan of McCombs School of Business, The University of Texas, Austin, USA made a presentation on Models for Retail Supply Chain Management, providing academic perspectives on the US market.

The Conference participants include both academic researchers and practitioners. The call for papers attracted over 90 submissions from academicians and industry; 58 papers have been accepted for presentation and deliberation.
