IIMB hosts IMR Doctoral Conference 2011

IIMB Management Review (IMR) organized a one-day Doctoral Conference on November 11, 2011 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) campus. Professor Gopal Naik, Chairperson, Fellow Programme in Management, IIM Bangalore, inaugurated the conference.

Doctoral students across various business schools in the country presented papers at the conference. These papers were selected after an intensive review process by renowned academicians in the respective areas. Each presentation was followed by an elaborate discussion by an assigned discussant. The abstracts of the papers presented can be found here.

The paper presentations were followed by two talks. The first talk was by Professor Ramadhar Singh titled, "Randomized Experiments: Testing Causal Hypothesis" who gave interesting insights into the field of experimental studies in Social Sciences and tips on Research Methodology. Later, Professor Pulak Ghosh's talk on "Surviving in the Publishing Industry", gave an idea of the prevailing realities of the publishing world.

Three selected papers are awarded after internationally renowned scholars in management research. They are the Dipak C Jain Award, the Pradip N Khandwalla Award and the Marti G Subrahmanyam Award. The highlight of this conference is that the said scholar would be actively involved in the selection of the award-winning papers from the short-listed papers. Awarded to the top three papers in the conference, these awards are not area-specific. The three winners of the distinguished awards are:

  • Dipak C Jain Award: "Economic Transition and the Value of Business Group Affiliation: Evidence from the Indian Market" by Narahari Hansoge, IIM Bangalore
  • Pradip N Khandwalla Award: "Emergence of an Organizational Field: A Study of the Palliative Care Field in Kerala, India" by Devi Vijay, IIM Bangalore
