CSITM Participatory Workshop held at IIMB

The CSITM Participatory workshop organized by the Center for Software and Information Technology Management (CSITM), IIMB was held on May 28, 2011 at the IIMB campus in Bangalore, India.

The theme of the conference was "Indian IT Industry - Moving up the Value Chain and Managing Non-Linear Growth". The conference participants included academic delegates and industry practitioners from different parts of the country.

The main objectives of this conference were:

  • - Enable industry practitioners, researchers and academicians to be updated with each others' perspectives on the challenges faced to sustain growth and move up the value chain in the IT industry.
  • - Provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to share their thoughts on future trends and to create a body of knowledge combining theory and practice.

The inaugural session of the day-long conference was a CEO Panel Discussion. The panel consisted of two academicians and two CEOs. Mr Clas Neumann, Head - Global SAP Labs Network at SAP and Mr Chandran Sankaran, founder/CEO of Zyme Solutions. The panelists gave brief presentations about their own experiences and perspectives on 'Moving Up the Value Chain' and achieving 'Non-Linear growth'.  Later, there was an interactive session with the audience. This was followed by four parallel tracks of research paper presentations by academicians and industry participants. The Jury Members in the four tracks were: Professor D V R Seshadri, IIMB; Mr Sridhar Parthasarathy, Tech Mahindra; Professor Ramya Ranganathan, IIMB; Mr Vishal Shah, Wipro Technologies; Professor Sourav Mukherji, IIMB; Mr Biplab Adhya, Wipro Technologies; Professor R Srinivasan, IIMB; Mr P S Hariharan, Real Soft Incorporated.

The afternoon session began with four parallel workshop track discussions in which every participant took part. This was led by distinguished faculty from IIMB and Industry leaders on four perspectives: Challenges from a Provider Perspective, Issues from a Customer Perspective, Measurement Criteria to Define Success of Non-Linear Initiatives and Non Linear Initiatives in the Domestic Market. Participants from industry, students and academicians delved into their respective topics and shared their own perspectives within their teams, with thought leadership from the Track Lead. The leads, Professor Sourav Mukherjee, Professor V N Bhattacharya, Mr Suryanarayana Valluri and Professor Raj Bandi then presented the research output of their own tracks to all the conference delegates.

The valedictory session featured a Summary of Learning from the conference by Professor Vasanthi Srinivasan who provided a vignette by absorbing the entire day's proceedings and meaningfully stringing the glimpses from each session together.  Mr Som Mittal, President of NASSCOM then delivered the Valedictory address and gave the awards to the authors of the Best Papers.
