Consultative Workshop on Maternal Health

The first consultative workshop under the ‘Fostering-Knowledge-Implementation Links' Project was held on 9th December 2010 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. The theme for this workshop was maternal health. The event brought together senior officials from the Department of Health and Family Welfare Services, Government of Karnataka and researchers working on maternal health issues, to discuss existing research related to maternal health policy and programmes from Karnataka. The discussions were focussed on the issues of quality of obstetric services, health system challenges to preventing and effectively managing obstetric emergencies, questions on the impact and effectiveness of the Janani Suraksha Yojana and bottle-necks in its implementation, assessment of various screening and treatment options for anaemia and review of the government's existing protocols for maternal death audits.
