HEC-IIMB Exchange Programme 2010 inaugurated at IIMB

The HEC-IIMB Exchange Programme 2010 was inaugurated on September 6, 2010 at the IIMB campus. This is the second in the series of exchange programmes between the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) and the HEC School of Management (HEC), a 129-year old academic institution based in Paris, France.

This year, thirty-six students from HEC are participating in this programme, a significant increase from the fourteen students who participated in the first year of the HEC IIMB Exchange Programme (HIEP) in 2009. The feedback from the first edition of HIEP in 2009 was extremely positive, leading to an overwhelming interest in the second such programme at IIMB.

The Consul General of France at Bengaluru, Mr Dominique Causse was the special invitee at the inauguration. Speaking to the students, Mr Causse congratulated them on their choice of Bengaluru as the base for their studies in India. India, in general, and Bengaluru in particular, represent excellent opportunities for research in various management topics, straddling both old and new economies.

Welcoming the students to the campus, IIMB Director Professor Pankaj Chandra gave a background to the Indian Institutes of Management and the unique dimensions of study offered at IIM Bangalore, encompassing high-technology industries and market-oriented companies along with public policy and research in social sectors.

Professor Rajluxmi Murthy of IIMB and Professor Shirish Srivastava of HEC are jointly coordinating this course. The Chairperson Office of International Affairs at IIMB, Professor G Sabarinathan, leads the student exchange programme.

As part of the activities during the week-long programme, the students from HEC will jointly work with students of IIMB on projects of mutual interest.  These projects are expected to lead to a deep appreciation of the business environment on either side, in a short period of time. The course combines classroom lectures and discussions, visits to companies, and informal exchanges amongst student groups.

The students from HEC are working executives with business experience ranging 3-15 years across various industries, and come from countries such as France, Spain, Iraq, Belgium, Lebanon, Senegal, Brazil, India and China.

Apart from serving as a platform for promoting cross-country and cross-cultural appreciation, HIEP is a part of an ongoing relationship between IIMB and HEC.  As part of the student exchange programme, a batch of students of IIMB, selected for this programme, will visit Paris in November-December 2010.    They will be exposed to the business environment in Europe, through a series of classroom lectures and industry visits. The exchange programme provides international exposure to the students of IIMB, with the opportunity to experience different business cultures.
