University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering & Applied Science honoured Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) Chairman Mukesh D Ambani with the Dean's Medal on January 8, 2010 at a ceremony held in Mumbai.

Mr Ambani was presented with the prestigious Dean's Medal for his visionary leadership in the application of engineering and technology for the betterment of mankind. The Dean's Medal was created in 1983 to recognize outstanding leaders of private enterprise, public service and academia.

About Mukesh D Ambani

Mr Mukesh D Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd., was appointed the Chairman of IIMB in September 2005.

Mr Mukesh D Ambani received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Mumbai and pursued a master's degree at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. In 1981 he joined Reliance Industries Ltd., the company founded by his father Mr Dhirubhai H Ambani, and started a career that exemplifies the impact of technology as a force for the betterment of the world.

Mr Ambani initiated Reliance's vertical integration journey from textiles into fibers, petrochemicals, petroleum refining and eventually oil and gas exploration and production. He created world-class facilities that made Reliance a global leader in polyester, petrochemicals and refining, including the world's largest petroleum refinery complex at Jamnagar. His vision of energy security for India was realized through an aggressive exploration program which resulted in the world's largest gas discovery in the year 2002. This field was developed in record time and has almost doubled the gas production in India. He is currently steering Reliance's development of a pan-India retail network, a transformational initiative connecting rural and urban India. Mr ambani was also instrumental in the formation of Reliance Infocomm Ltd., one of the largest information and communications initiatives in the world.

Mukesh D Ambani received the US-India Business Council 'Global Vision Award for Leadership' in 2007. In 2006 he was honoured with ET Business Leader of the Year Award and the first NDTV-Profit Global Indian Leader Award from the honourable Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
