3 March, 2025, Bengaluru: Students of the Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) will host a special talk on, ‘Leadership: Lessons from Experience’, as part of the annual ‘Policy Speaks’ series, from 6 pm to 7.30 pm on 6th March 2025. The session will be led by Ashwani Lohani, Former Chairman and Managing Director - Air India and Former Chairman - Railway Board. The session wiil be held online.

About the speaker: Ashwani Lohani is a former Indian Railway Service Officer. He holds a LIMCA record for four engineering degrees in Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, besides being a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and the Institution of Engineers (India). He has received many awards, including the National Award for Outstanding Performance, Eminent Engineers award, Eminence in Governance award, Tourism Legend Award & Lifetime Achievement award, to name a few.
He has work experience in the Government as well as the corporate sector. He superannuated as the Chairman of the Indian Railways. He also worked as the Chairman & Managing Director of Air India in two tenures, Chairman & Managing Director of the India Tourism Development Corporation, Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Tourism in the rank of a Minister, Advisor Tourism to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Divisional Railway Manager of Delhi and the Commissioner & Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism in three tenures. He made significant contribution as the Director of Tourism in Government of India and the Director of the National Rail Museum, New Delhi. His work in heritage preservation is also exemplary.
He has authored three books, one on management titled, ‘Winning at work against all odds’, one on steam locomotives titled, ‘Smoking Beauties’, and the third on leadership titled, ‘Heart over Mind’. He also authored comprehensive reports on Steam Heritage Tourism and Rail Tourism.
