Carbon credits, representing one tonne of CO₂ reduced or removed, are now traded globally, allowing companies to offset their emissions, strengthen their ESG profiles, and attract investors. As demand surges, carbon markets offer an important opportunity in enabling the Global South to finance sustainable development initiatives by monetizing emissions reductions.
Dr. Shirai’s carbon conversation will deliberate on the measures to mobilize climate finance with private sector innovation and blended finance; ways to ensure carbon credit quality, co-benefits, and ethical climate action; and the rise of national carbon markets: India’s CCTS and Japan’s J-Credit Exchange.
