IIMB to unveil comprehensive sustainability agenda on World Environment Day

The Institute will set key climate targets, reaffirm collective action, and host campus-wide sustainability initiatives led by the Sustainability Taskforce

29 May, 2025, Bengaluru: As part of its continued commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development, IIMB will commemorate World Environment Day on 5 June 2025, with a special event that brings together institutional action, academic engagement, and community participation.

The event, to be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in Classroom N-001, is being organized by IIMB’s Sustainability Taskforce, under the leadership of Prof. Haritha Saranga, Chairperson, Sustainability Taskforce, and faculty of the Production & Operations Management area. It will serve as a platform to reiterate the Institute’s short and long-term sustainability agenda, introduce new initiatives, and highlight efforts by members of the campus community.

Among the key announcements will be IIMB’s formal commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions in two categories: Scope 2 emissions by 2030, and Scope 1 emissions by 2035.

A highlight of the event will be the release of IIMB’s Sustainability Report, an independently audited document that will offer a comprehensive view of the Institute’s environmental performance and its evolving sustainability framework.

The newly introduced core course, Responsible Business and Sustainability, which commences in the first week of June, will be formally introduced at the event. Faculty members involved in its development will reflect on the process of designing and delivering the programme. The Institute will also inaugurate newly procured electric vehicles, including an electric bus and several electric golf carts.

A set of community-led initiatives will also take place during the week. These include a clothes collection drive coordinated by campus residents and a recycled book distribution for PGP-2 students, facilitated by the student-run ENS club.
